2016 Horizontal Tasting

Feb 1, 2026 1:30pm - 3:30pm

We begin each year by looking back with a decade's perspective at how a broad range of wines from the vintage ten years earlier have developed. This year, we are diving deep into the 2016 vintage.

The 2016 vintage, while still marked by drought, saw better rainfall than the four previous years, and the vineyards showed good health through most of the growing season. That season started with a very early budbreak and continued warm weather spurred our earliest-ever beginning to harvest, on August 18th. But beginning mid-August, three cool weeks slowed the ripening for all but our earliest grapes, and allowed them to reach flavor and phenolic maturity with slightly above-average hang time. The resulting vintage shows excellent concentration but also remarkable vibrancy, with electric acids framing appealing juiciness.

At this horizontal tasting (horizontal referring to tasting several wines from a single estate made in a single year, as opposed to vertical, which would imply a tasting of the same wine across several vintages) you can join Proprietor Jason Haas and Director of Production Neil Collins as we share and discuss nine different wines from 2016, including the 2016 Esprit de Tablas Blanc, 2016 Esprit de Tablas, and 2016 Panoplie.

The cost is $80 for wine club members and $95 for guests and non-members. You can add reserve your seat on our tock page, by emailing events@tablascreek.com or by calling us at 805.237.1231 x236.
