Lignée de Tablas is a new tier of wines from Tablas Creek featuring single-vineyard wines sourced from vineyards planted to Tablas Creek clones and made in small quantities. Lignée means lineage in French, and the wines celebrate the influence of the Tablas Creek nursery and the grapevines we brought in from Beaucastel starting in 1989. We share the full story of the Lignée de Tablas program on the Tablas Blog.

The Lignée de Tablas Windfall Farms Grenache Blanc is the first white wine released in the Lignée de Tablas collection. Windfall Farms is a beautiful property located in the Creston District of Paso Robles. Grenache Blanc was one of the grapes that Tablas Creek introduced to California, and it has proven to be extremely well suited to the Mediterranean climate here. At Windfall Farms the grape produces classic flavors of citrus and green apple, with Grenache Blanc's characteristic mouth-filling texture and bright acids.

Tasting Notes

A pretty lifted nose of white pepper and citrus pith. On the palate, more citrus, with a green citrus leaf element adding complexity. With solid texture, good acids, and a little sweet spice on the finish.

Production Notes

The 2022 vintage was our third year of drought, but because the rain that we received came early, the vines showed good health though with cluster counts down by about 15%. Two frost events, one in April and one in May, reduced yields further. A cool first half of the summer was followed by our hottest-ever August and September, producing an early start and an even earlier finish to harvest. The vintage's extremely low yields produced concentrated flavors, noteworthy texture, and intense fruit.

All the Grenache Blanc grapes were grown on the Windfall Farms estate in the Creston District of Paso Robles. They were harvested on September 12th, whole-cluster pressed, and fermented at Tablas Creek in stainless steel tanks using native yeasts. After fermentation, the wines were racked and blended, then bottled in May 2023.
