Esprit de Tablas is Tablas Creek's signature red blend, always led by the dark red fruit, earth, spice, and mid-palate richness of Mourvèdre (44%), along with additions of Grenache (24%), Syrah (21%), Counoise (5%), Vaccarèse (4%), and Cinsaut (2%). The relatively high percentage of both Mourvèdre and Syrah gives the wine luscious fruit equally balanced between red and black, with plush texture, chewy tannins, and earthy elements like new leather and loam that hint at years of fascinating development. It should drink well for two decades or more.
Available to order through December 7th on the futures cart page.
Tasting Notes
A deep, inviting nose with notes of meat drippings, milk chocolate, plum, bay leaf, cracked pepper, and foresty earth. The mouth is gorgeous: deeply fruited with cassis and black plum, red and black licorice, new leather, and sweet spices. The finish shows notes of black tea and warm earth and lingering tannins. Serious but still approachable, and seemingly an Esprit that will be appealing both upon release and with time in the cellar.

Production Notes
The 2024-25 winter began dry but finished wet, with two-thirds of the winter's precipitation coming in February and March. That late rain delayed budbreak and allowed us to dodge any spring frosts. The summer was warm but rarely hot, with the fewest 100° days in our history. Harvest began at a normal time frame but cool temperatures in September and October slowed down harvest. We navigated two early rain events without damage and finished an extended but unhurried harvest in early November. The exceptionally long hang time and gradual ripening combined to produce fruit with deep colors, remarkable intensity, and noteworthy vibrancy. We believe 2025 has all the hallmarks of a blockbuster year.y.
The grapes for our Esprit de Tablas were grown on our biodynamic and Regenerative Organic Certified estate vineyard.
The grapes were fermented using native yeasts in a mix of 1500-gallon wooden upright fermenters, open-top tanks and closed stainless steel fermenters. After pressing, the wines were moved into barrel and allowed to complete malolactic fermentation. The Esprit's components were then selected for Esprit, blended in June 2026 and have been aging in 1200-gallon foudre ever since. We expect the wine to be bottled in August 2027.
