The 2013 Tablas Creek Vineyard Marsanne is Tablas Creek’s third varietal bottling of Marsanne, the noble white grape of France’s Hermitage appellation. We use most of our Marsanne in our Côtes de Tablas Blanc each year. However, in 2013 we felt that the Marsanne was so complete and compelling, and so representative of the Marsanne grape, that we selected out two lots for a single-varietal bottling.
Tasting Notes
The 2013 Marsanne shows vibrant aromas of quince paste, clover honey and newly-laid straw. On the palate, a classic Marsanne, with preserved lemon, wheat, mineral and honeydew melon, great texture and a hint of tannin on the finish. Drink it over the next decade.
Updated tasting notes from a January 2023 vertical tasting can be found on the Tablas Creek blog.

Production Notes
The grapes for our 2013 Marsanne were grown on our 120-acre certified organic estate vineyard.
The 2013 vintage was a classic California vintage, warm and sunny, with added intensity from the low yields produced by our second consecutive drought year. The summer was consistently warm, without the heat spikes or cold stretches that can delay ripening, and resulted in an early harvest under near-perfect conditions. The net result was a blockbuster vintage, with excellent concentration and good freshness, that should offer both early appeal and the capacity to age. Our Marsanne was harvested on September 9th and 10th.
The Marsanne was whole cluster pressed, and fermented in a mix of stainless steel (to emphasize its clean crisp flavors and minerality) and foudre (to build body and richness). Only native yeasts were used. After fermentation, the wine was racked and blended, and bottled in May 2014. The wine underwent only a light cold stabilization before bottling.
