JamesSuckling.com reviews Tablas Creek; highlights include 96 points for 2022 Esprit and 95 points for 2022 Esprit Blanc

Ryan Montgomery for James Suckling

In a new set of reviews for JamesSuckling.com, Associate Editor Ryan Montgomery dove into 22 new Tablas Creek releases from the 2022 and 2023 vintages. All 22 wines received scores of 92 points or higher, but two highlights were his reviews of the 2022 Esprit de Tablas and 2022 Esprit de Tablas Blanc that will be released this fall:

2022 Esprit de Tablas Blanc: 95 points; “A rich and generous nose of honeydew melon, orange blossoms, seaweed and lemons. The palate is medium- to full-bodied with bright acidity and complex notes of peaches, nectarines, beeswax and lanolin. Very complex and tightly bound structure that will unfold for years to come. Made from a blend of 33% roussanne, 32% grenache blanc, 14% picpoul blanc, 8% picpoul blanc, 8% picardan, 8% clairette blanche, 5% bourboulenc. Drink or hold.”
2022 Esprit de Tablas: 96 points; “A complex and inviting nose of bramble berries, coffee beans, tobacco leaves and violets. The palate is full-bodied but fresh, with silky smooth tannins and bright acidity, showing notes of wild blackberries, dark chocolate and orange rind. Wonderfully balanced and giving. Made from a blend of 40% mourvedre, 28% grenache, 22% syrah, 4% vaccarese, 3% counoise and 3% cinsault. Drink or hold.”
