Panoplie is our elite Mourvèdre-based cuvée, made in the model of Château de Beaucastel's Hommage a Jacques Perrin and selected from the top 5% of lots that come into the cellar each vintage. In 2021, we chose three exceptional lots of Mourvèdre to represent 54% of the wine, and added two lots each of Grenache (24%) and Syrah (22%). The resulting Panoplie shows Mourvèdre at its most luscious, with dark currant and plum fruit alongside a meaty, mocha density. Syrah’s black fruit and chalky tannins give the wine grip, while Grenache adds juicy vibrancy and spicy lift. A blockbuster, it will be hard to resist young but should age effortlessly for 30 years or more.
Tasting Notes
A powerful nose, olallieberry and black licorice, minty coolness and spicy herbs. The mouth is plush and powerful, rich in fruit and tannin, deep loamy earth and baker's chocolate. Long and opulent but with lovely minty lift.

Production Notes
The 2021 vintage came after a chilly, relatively dry winter, the exception being a single storm that dropped more than a foot of rain on us in late January. The cold, dry winter produced a fruit set with smaller clusters and smaller berries, and yields were down about 25% compared to our average. The growing season was ideal, with each hot stretch followed by a cool period that allowed the vines to recover, and that combined with the low yields to produce some of our most intense fruit ever and our highest average acids since the chilly 2011 vintage. We believe that 2021 has all the hallmarks of a blockbuster year.
The grapes for our Panoplie were grown on our certified organic and biodynamic estate vineyard.
The grapes were fermented using native yeasts in a mix of 1500-gallon wooden upright fermenters, open-top tanks and closed stainless steel fermenters. After pressing, the wines were moved into barrel and allowed to complete malolactic fermentation. The Panoplie was selected from the vintage's best lots and blended in May 2022, and has been aging in 1200-gallon French oak foudres ever since. We expect to bottle the wine in July 2023.
