Panoplie is our elite Mourvèdre-based cuvée, made in the model of Château de Beaucastel's Hommage a Jacques Perrin and selected from the top 5% of lots that come into the cellar each vintage. In 2022, we chose exceptional lots of Mourvèdre to represent 67% of the wine, and added near equal parts of Grenache (18%) and Syrah (15%). The resulting Panoplie shows luscious red plum fruit, mocha, and sweet spice, good vibrancy, and Mourvedre's characteristic chewy tannins. Drink over the next 25-30 years.
Available to order through December 11th on the futures cart page
Tasting Notes
A dense nose of plum compote and baker's chocolate, forest floor and juniper spice. The mouth is more open and higher toned, featuring flavors of red plum and chalky minerality, with notes of mocha and sweet spice. Good vibrancy on the palate and Mourvedre's characteristic chewy tannins complete the picture. This should be a great Panoplie to lay down, though it may be so tasty that it will be hard to keep away from it in its youth.

Production Notes
The 2022 vintage was our third year of drought, but because the rain that we received came early, the vines showed good health though with cluster counts down by about 15%. Two frost events, one in April and one in May, reduced yields further. A cool first half of the summer was followed by our hottest-ever August and September, producing an early start and an even earlier finish to harvest. The vintage's extremely low yields produced concentrated flavors, noteworthy texture, and intense fruit.
The grapes for our Panoplie were grown on our biodynamic and Regenerative Organic Certified estate vineyard.
The grapes were fermented using native yeasts in a mix of 1500-gallon wooden upright fermenters, open-top tanks and closed stainless steel fermenters. After pressing, the wines were moved into barrel and allowed to complete malolactic fermentation. The Panoplie was selected from the vintage's best lots and blended in May 2023, and has been aging in 1200-gallon French oak foudres ever since. We expect to bottle the wine in July 2024.
