In worthy vintages, Tablas Creek Vineyard produces small quantities of Panoplie from the top 2% of the year's red lots: a Mourvèdre-based cuvée made in the model of Château de Beaucastel’s Hommage à Jacques Perrin. In 2023, only 800 cases were produced.
The 2023 Panoplie is exclusively available to Tablas Creek Vineyard wine club members. VINsiders who reserved this wine as futures in December 2024 will receive their wine in the fall of 2025. Ordering the Esprit de Tablas and Panoplie "en primeur" is available exclusively to Wine Club members. One bottle will be released to all VINsider Wine Club members in the Spring 2026 shipment.
Tasting Notes
A deep, pure nose of plum pudding, chocolate mousse, meat drippings, hoisin, and leather. On the palate, the purity of the Mourvèdre fruit shines: currant and black plum, sweet earth and duck fat. The finish has chewy tannins and a lovely saline persistence with notes of spun sugar and mocha. This should be a great Panoplie to lay down, though it may be so appealing young that a lot of it won't get that far.

Production Notes
The 2023 vintage began with our wettest-ever winter, replenishing ground water and delaying budbreak. It continued with our coolest growing season in more than a decade, which combined with the late start to produce a harvest roughly a month later than most recent years, beginning in mid-September and not concluding until mid-November. Warm, sunny weather starting in October allowed the later-ripening varieties to reach full maturity. The exceptionally long hangtime and gradual ripening combined to produce fruit with deep colors, remarkable intensity, and noteworthy vibrancy. We believe 2023 has all the hallmarks of a blockbuster year.
The grapes for our Panoplie were grown on our organic, biodynamic, and and Regenerative Organic Certified™ estate vineyard.
The grapes were fermented using native yeasts in a mix of 1500-gallon wooden upright fermenters, open-top tanks, and closed stainless steel fermenters. After pressing, the wines were moved into barrel and allowed to complete malolactic fermentation. The Panoplie was selected from the vintage's best lots and blended in July 2023, then aged in 1200-gallon French oak foudres for another year before being bottled in August 2025.
